‘Heartbroken’ New England Patriots lead tributes to victims of mass capturing at neighboring Brown University

The New England Patriots shared a poignant message to their ‘neighbors’ in Rhode Island following the horrific events that unfolded at Brown University on Saturday.

An active shooter has left at least two people dead and at least eight injured after opening fire in a building on the Providence college’s campus Saturday afternoon.

As the Ivy League college remains in lockdown with the suspect still at large, the Patriots – the NFL team based in Foxborough, Massachusetts, roughly 25 miles from the Rhode Island campus – paid tribute to the victims of the terrifying incident.

‘The New England Patriots are heartbroken by the horrific events at Brown University,’ the franchise penned.

‘We extend our deepest sympathies to those affected and their families, and we remain grateful to the first responders and law enforcement who acted swiftly to protect the students, faculty, staff and the community.

‘We stand with Brown University and our neighbors in Rhode Island during this difficult time.’

Rather than belonging to a city like most NFL teams, the Patriots represent the region of New England.

The franchise play their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, which is located 20-25 miles away – a 30-to-40-minute drive – from Providence.
