The introduction of a foreign snack to the iconic Tesco meal deal has left Brits in a “furious” rage. Tim Tams – the Australian chocolate biscuit bar similar to a Penguin bar – can now be purchased alongside a main, usually a sandwich, and drink.

The move by Tesco, which has 3,000 UK stores, has divided the nation with some dubbing the Aussie favourite “disgusting”. Angry Brits flooded TikTok with disapproving comments. One said: “We don’t want that Aussie crap infiltrating our meal deals.” Another raged: “Tim Tams are disgusting, Penguins are superior.”

However, migrants from Australia and New Zealand welcomed the news. “PSA to Kiwi and Aussies in the UK, Tim Tams are a meal deal snack at Tesco,” wrote one.

“Aussie gold is now part of a meal deal, day made,” remarked another.

Back in August, an MP called for “parliament to be recalled” after it was announced Tesco Meal Deal prices will climb to a staggering £4.25, or a hefty £3.85 with a Clubcard. Liberal Democrat MP for Maidenhead, Joshua Reynolds, has dubbed the price hike a “national outrage” on the social media site X.

The MP’s comments came in response to a heartbroken Tesco customer writing: “Discovering that a Tesco meal deal will be £3.85 *with* a Clubcard from Thursday was truly devastating.”

Many across social media shared the MP’s frustration that the meal deal price has climbed up as one person called for the change to be discussed in parliament. The social media user said: “This deserves to be mentioned in the PMQs…”

Another concerned Tesco shopper added: “This is one of the very few times the Lib Dems have called for the recall of parliament, I can get behind.”

The price adjustment comes after a previous price hike in August 2024, when the cost of the popular lunchtime choice rose from £3.40 to £3.60 for Clubcard members and from £3.90 to £4 for non-Clubcard customers.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Our meal deal remains great value and the ideal way to grab lunch on-the-go at just £3.85 for a main, snack and drink when bought with a Clubcard.
