An NHS doctor left a youngster “screaming” in agony during a circumcision procedure. The disgraced paediatrician, who caused a boy’s penis to “explode,” has been ordered to pay back just £1.

Mohammad Siddiqui would inflict torment on children after demanding £250 for the brutal operations. The 58-year-old would frequently restrain his patients on a board and rely solely on cream for pain relief. During one horrific operation conducted on a dining room table in Bristol, a youngster’s penis “exploded” – nearly resulting in his death, the Express reports.

He would frequently fail to wash his hands prior to carrying out the procedures, and would seldom sterilise the scissors or clean the penises of his victims. Siddiqui was detained five times and instructed by officers to cease performing any further brutal operations.

However, he disregarded their warnings until he was held in custody. Across a five-year span, Siddiqui was alleged to have “cut corners and caused unnecessary pain, suffering, cruelty and risk” to “maximise profits” from his £300 operations – all conducted by arrangement at patients’ family homes.

Siddiqui had originally contested 39 charges and represented himself during a two-month trial at Southwark Crown Court. However, he pleaded guilty to 25 charges whilst the prosecution presented their case, sparing jurors from hearing additional horrific evidence.

Siddiqui was struck off the medical register in 2015 for conducting circumcisions on young lads in filthy and dangerous conditions whilst employed at Southampton General Hospital. Nevertheless, he pressed ahead and administered the anaesthetic Bupivacaine Hydrochloride – despite being prohibited from doing so.

Judge Noel Lucas sentenced Siddiqui to five years and seven months behind bars in January. He was also slapped with a serious crime prevention order spanning five years following his release from custody.

Siddiqui appeared back at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday for a confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

His profit from criminal activity was assessed at merely £4,097, but owing to a shortage of recoverable assets, Judge Lucas commanded he pay a token amount of just £1.

Siddiqui, who defended himself during his latest court appearance, was granted 28 days to cough up £1 or face an additional day in prison in default.

Previously, the judge had warned him: “Despite your experience, you repeatedly performed circumcisions in a non-sanitary manner.

“In each case, you failed to take adequate care in how you performed circumcisions. Dr Siddiqui, it must be clearly understood by anyone of whatever religion who performs circumcisions that if they fail to carry out the procedure carefully, they will risk prosecution and a potential prison sentence.”

Following a search of his vehicle, officers discovered a corroded hook with a serrated wheel and blood-stained scissors, with forensic tests revealing traces of human skin on the instruments.

A furious Siddiqui subsequently erupted in court, branding the accusations against him as “lies” and declaring: “The scissors and skin was all planted by the police. My blood is boiling.”

Ben Douglas-Jones, KC, prosecuting, stated: “His approach to the criminal proceedings meant that Southwark Crown Court had to devote one of its precious courts for six months to accommodate him.

“This case is unprecedented in the experience of all parties in this court room. It extended to solicitors within the specialist fraud division.”
