A disgraced couple has been found guilty of the horrific stabbing and decapitation of their two children.

The disturbing and sinister case, which unfolded in 2020, is finally reaching a conclusion, with sentencing set for January 2026.

On Tuesday (November 18), the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Maurice Jewel Taylor Sr., 39, and , 48, were found guilty of two felony counts of first-degree murder.

They were also found guilty of two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

“Two innocent children were brutally murdered, and their young brothers were left to live through unimaginable horror,” District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in an official release.

In late November 2020, Taylor and Brothwell committed a horrific crime in their Lancaster, California home, where they fatally stabbed and then decapitated their two eldest children, 13-year-old Maliaka and 12-year-old Maurice Jr.

Immediately following the murders, they reportedly forced their two younger sons, aged eight and nine at the time, to view the headless bodies of their siblings.

The couple then confined the surviving boys to their bedrooms for several days without food or water, while the bodies of the murdered children were left to decompose in the house.

The crime came to light on December 4, 2020, when neighbours reported a foul odour.

Additionally, Taylor’s clients, concerned after the personal trainer missed virtual training sessions, alerted authorities.

Responding to reports of a possible gas leak, police and firefighters discovered the gruesome scene and rescued the neglected boys.

Taylor was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and child abuse, while Brothwell, who had moved to Arizona, was apprehended months later.

Both were ultimately convicted of first-degree murder and felony child abuse. They now face life in prison without parole, with sentencing scheduled for January, 13, 2026.
