Moment Algerian migrant steals designer garments from Selfridges whereas on bail

This is the moment an Algerian migrant was caught on camera stealing Canada Goose beanies from Selfridges.

Dade Mustafa, 35, grabbed two hats worth £350 from the department store on Oxford Street on October 10 – while he was already on bail for immigration offences.

CCTV footage obtained exclusively by the Daily Mail shows the thief peering around shiftily before seizing his opportunity to swipe the luxury items.

After ripping off the security tags, he stuffs one of the hats down his trousers and another in his coat pocket.

Off-camera, Mustafa is said to have squared up to security guard Farzan Molaei before telling him to ‘f*** off’.

Later footage shows him being arrested by police.

Told by an officer that he had stolen two items worth £350, the expressionless criminal replies: ‘No problem, no problem.’

Mustafa appeared in the dock at Southwark Crown Court last week wearing a Canada Goose jacket, which can cost up to £1,200 new.

The brazen theft happened in front of hundreds of shoppers at the one of the busiest shops in the country, prosecutor Alex Alawode said.

Mustafa, who has a string of previous convictions and lives in Wood Green, north London, admitted one count of theft from a shop.

He spoke to confirm his personal details, aided by an Arabic interpreter.

Mustafa denied using threatening or abusive words and that charge was ordered to lie on file.

Charlotte Arundale, defending Mustafa, told the court: ‘The defendant entered the UK from Algeria. He is currently on immigration bail.

‘He has used an alias name. He has showed me some immigration bail documentation which gives us a name as Dade Mustafa.

‘His date of birth was also different on his documents.’

Mustafa was on bail for immigration offences at the time. The Home Office refused to reveal what these offences were, citing its policy of ‘not commenting on individual cases’

Judge Charles Bourne KC said: ‘He has been in the court on a number of occasions in the recent past.

‘A report will be necessary.

‘You have several previous matters against you and I need more information before I can deal with your sentence.

‘You will remain on bail on the condition you do not go to Selfridges.’

Mustafa will be sentenced at the same court on February 12.
