King Charles III and Queen Camilla are seeking to employ a videographer to capture “on-trend” content for the Royal Household’s social media accounts. The position, which offers a handsome £52,000 salary, invites applicants to become part of the royal communications team in the Private Secretary’s office.

The permanent role will mark the first time a videographer has been hired by a British monarch, with the closing date advertised as July 12. The successful candidate will carry out a host of duties, from covering major state events to gathering and sharing “high-quality content” of behind-the-scene moments to platforms including Instagram, X and YouTube.

“It’s using your creativity to bring stories to life,” the job advertisement begins. “It’s inspiring millions through powerful visual content. This is what makes a career with the Royal Household exceptional.”

It adds: “The Royal Communications team is at the heart of how the Royal Family connects with audiences around the world. As videographer, you’ll play a key role in shaping how those stories are told across digital platforms, capturing moments that are shared globally.”

Content cannot be displayed without consent

Key responsibilities of the job include covering Royal visits, engagements and key initiatives across the UK and occasionally overseas, as well as keeping up to date with trends and continually evolve content to maximise reach and engagement.

The Royal Household goes on to state that it is looking for an “experienced videographer” with a “strong creative instinct” and a great understanding of social media content, and someone who will bring “fresh ideas, a proactive mindset and a passion for storytelling” through developing innovative content formats and ideas.

The role is for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday and offers a variety of perks including 25 days of annual leave (rising to 30) and a 20% discount at Royal Collection Trust Shops.

The new position sparked a mixed reaction online, however.

One X user fumed: “Since when does a British monarch need to be ‘on trend’ or reach a global audience? This lot are clearly not as popular as the polls suggest. This smells desperate.”

A second person pondered: “On-trend… are they influencers now? How pathetic.”

While a third slammed: “Royal Family don’t bother, you’ll be gone soon and then we will have a real King and Queen who cares about us.”

And a fourth asked: “Who on earth would watch anything they make? Two unattractive, boring elderly people famous for the Tampongate phone call.”

Others expressed their support, meanwhile, including one X user who exclaimed: “Good. It is the modern era.”

Another enthused: “This is much needed! A fabulous move!”

And a third agreed: “Finally. They are definitely one of the few heads of state and their spouses in the world without an official videographer.”

Buckingham Palace has been invited to respond.
