Darts star Ricky Evans joked he’s “weird but box office” after an instant classic with James Wade to advance to the third round of the Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship
Darts star Ricky Evans declared he’s “weird but box office” after dumping James Wade out of the Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship.
Rapid and the Machine played out an instant classic at the Ally Pally on Monday afternoon with the game going the distance with some excellent darts on show from the pair. “Imagine coming to the darts and winning 3-0 what is the point? Make it interesting,” he said.
“What is the point of playing boring. I say every year I am weird but I am box office! I literally thought you have had your chance, Wadey is going to do it now.
“But I am still in! Come on!” Evans then paid tribute to his sister, who tragically passed away earlier this year: “My sister hit that double for me there- We are going there girl, we are going!”
Speaking on Sky Sports, Glen Durrant added: “Evans is an emotional man but what a game that was!
“Much respect to Wade, who never knew when he was beaten. What a finish from Evans under the circumstances!”
While Abi Davies, who was on commentary, said: “It was exhilarating, it was exhausting. Both players went blow for blow.
“It looked like it was James Wade’s and Ricky Evans – at times – looked done, but both players went to the well time after time.
“It was Evans who found the scoring, found the doubling when he needed it. He’s through to the third round for a seventh time.”
Evans will now return after Christmas, while Wade – the World No.7 – is the latest to fall in a winter full of shocks at the Palace.
And the Kettering thrower will now face either Charlie Manby or Adam Sevada in the third round.
