Phillip Young, 49, and five other men were charged with a total of 60 sexual offences – including multiple rapes – against his ex-wife Joanne Young, 48, who waived her right to anonymity
Philip Young has appeared before magistrates in Swindon charged with 56 sexual offences against his former wife Joanne Young over a period of 13 years.
The charges include multiple counts of rape, administering a substance with intent to stupefy/overpower to allow sexual activity, voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children, and possession of extreme images, Wiltshire Police said.
Another five defendants: Norman Macksoni, Dean Hamilton, Conner Sanderson Doyle, Richard Wilkins and Mohammed Hassan, are due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court at 2pm on Tuesday.
They are also charged with sexual offences against Joanne Young, including rape and sexual assault. Ms Young, 48, has waived her right to anonymity.
Philip Young dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans and a black zip-up jumper spoke only to confirm his name and address before sitting down.
He was told the charges were indictable-only offences that could only be deal with in a Crown Court.
He is among six men due to appear in court today charged with offences against Ms Young between 2010 and 2023. Young was told to attend Swindon Crown Court on January 23 2026.
He did not react as the dock officer handcuffed him and took him to the cells. Young, a white British national formerly from Swindon but now living in Enfield, told magistrates he did not wish to indicate how he would plead to the charges.
Magistrate Martin Clarke told Young his case would have to be heard at Swindon Crown Court.
He added: “However, I do ask if you wish to enter a plea.”
Young responded: “No.”
Addressing Young, Mr Clarke said: “You understand everything that has happened here this morning… Very short and sweet.
“We are sending (this case) to crown court. You are remanded in custody until that particular time.”
He told Young to arrive at Swindon Crown Court at 9.30am on January 23 for a 10am start.
