Anthony Joshua’s chauffeur has been charged by police in Nigeria after the horror crash that killed two of the boxer’s close friends.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court on Friday, and police sources have told the BBC the charges included causing death by dangerous driving. In an update on Friday, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed: “The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026 and the case has been adjourned to 20th January, 2026.”
Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele died after the vehicle they were travelling in along with Joshua struck a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos on Monday. Joshua sustained injuries but was released from hospital on Wednesday.
Just hours before the crash, Joshua, born in Watford to Nigerian parents, and Ayodele both posted footage on their Instagram accounts of them playing table tennis. Ayodele, also known as Latz, was a personal trainer of Joshua, while Ghami acted as strength and conditioning coach for the 36-year-old.
The Ogun State Government claimed earlier this week that Joshua had “narrowly escaped death”, while the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria posted several pictures of the crash scene on X on Monday, revealing preliminary findings that suggested a Lexus “was suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit”.
Paying tribute to Ghami and Ayodele, Tyson Fury said: “This is so sad. May God give them a good bed in heaven.” Former world champion Wladimir Klitschko, who was stopped in the 11th round by Joshua at Wembley Stadium in 2017, wrote on X: “I’m deeply saddened to hear about AJ and his close-knit group of friends.

“Having had the pleasure of engaging in an unforgettable battle with AJ, I’ve always regarded him as a true class act who commands my utmost respect.
“My heart goes out to him, and I wish him and his loved ones all the best during this difficult time.”
While Amir Khan said: “Extremely saddened to hear about the loss of AJ’s two close boys. I don’t even have the right words for such a difficult time.
“May God give their families strength, and may Allah grant them the highest rank in Jannah. Also wishing AJ a speedy recovery.”
And Matchroom boxing chief Eddie Hearn said: “Rest in peace Latz and Sina. Your energy and loyalty among so many other great qualities will be deeply missed.
“Praying for strength and guidance for all their family, friends and of course AJ during this very difficult time.”
