Secret Service ‘physically detained’ a suspect for breaking into the home of JD Vance in Cincinnati, Ohio on early Monday morning.
Local media outlets reported that several windows at the home were the destroyed as police secured the scene.
Law enforcement claim at least one person is in custody for the break-in.
The Secret Service arrived to the vandalized property overnight but departed on early Monday morning.
The agency said it is working with the Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. attorney’s office in order to charge any suspects involved in the property’s damage.
‘An adult male was taken into custody by the Cincinnati Police Department after being detained by U.S. Secret Service personnel for causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with the Vice President,’ A Secret Service spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
‘Shortly after midnight on Monday, January 5, the man was physically detained by Secret Service agents assigned to the Vice President’s home. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and the Vice President and his family were not in Ohio.’

Local police were seen at the house for several hours overnight, going in and out of the vice president’s residence.
The Ohio property is the primary residence for the second family outside of their Washington DC home at the Naval Observatory.
Following the break-in, footage has been released showing large holes in the windows of the vice president’s home as police officers patrol the scene and record evidence of the damage.
The luxurious rural property overlooks the Ohio River and spans 2.3 acres. The Vance family purchased the home for $1.4 million.
Vance and his wife own a home on Capitol Hill in Washington DC and another property in Alexandria, Virginia.
Vance purchased these homes while serving as as the US senator representing the state of Ohio.
After taking the vice presidential oath of office in January 2025, the couple have lived with their three children at the Naval Observatory.
A motive for the suspect detained for the Vance family home break-in is not known at this time
