The chaotic turn in the administration’s deployment of federal officers to snare migrants has led President Donald Trump to undermine Noem’s power by sending border czar Tom Homan to oversee the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents.
Near the end of his talk with Walz, Meiselas noted that the former South Dakota governor and Walz were once colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives ― but that Noem was now “defaming” Walz. (The secretary has accused Walz of encouraging the violence.)
Walz harkened back to when they had a more cordial relationship and “cowrote bills together.”
“And now all of a sudden we get this. … It’s the weirdest damn thing.”
“I think she probably should go back to South Dakota, not have any dogs, and just kinda ride things out,” he cracked.
