A Sri Lankan man is due to appear in court accused of drugging and raping a 19-year-old woman.
Viaan Surendranathan, 21, was charged yesterday with the rape of a woman and for administering her with a drug with the intent to stupefy for sexual activity.
He was also charged with possessing a class A drug.
Surendranathan, a Sri Lankan national who has been living in Southampton, has been remanded into custody and is due to appear in front of magistrates later today.
Last week, police received a report that a woman had been allegedly raped at an address in the Polygon area of the city.
A force spokesman said: ‘Officers investigating a rape in Southampton have charged a man.
‘We received a report that on Thursday February 5, a 19-year-old woman had been raped at an address in the Polygon area of Southampton.
‘The woman is currently being supported by police.’
