Addison appeared to be chuckling in her mugshot

A 79-year-old woman was accused of letting a one-year-old toddler drink meth. She then appeared to be laughing in her disturbing mugshot following her arrest.

Judith Addison acting as baby-sitter when a bag of methamphetamine was reported to have found its way into a “sippy cup” that was being drunk from by the child. Unsurprisingly, the one-year-old, who has not been named for legal reasons, is reported to have quickly fallen ill.

Neither Addison nor the child’s parents elected to call for help. Despite ingesting a possibly lethal quantity of the substance, it was only when the child began vomiting uncontrollably that they went to the local fire department, at which point the toddler was rushed to hospital “for treatment of a possible overdose”.

The incident, which took place in the small town of Callahan in Nassau County, Florida, USA, is believed to have shocked many in the local community, according to local reports. Along with Addison, three others were arrested following the incident: Hayden Simmons, 21, Damien Windham, 21, and Erica Foley, 45.

It is unknown whether or not Simmons and Windham are the victim’s parents, although the pair are believed to have at least one child together and to have been in a relationship since at least 2023.

All four have been charged with child neglect and causing serious bodily injury, with Foley facing an additional charge for being found in possession of drug-related paraphernalia.

While the 79-year-old Addison appears non-plussed in her mug-shot, the three others appear to be taking things more seriously, with all three sporting a scowl.

Following the arrest, police reported finding an array of objects used in the taking of drugs at the property, including glass pipes.

A statement from the local sheriff department called the story “heartbreaking” and “a completely preventable situation”.

Sheriff Bill Leeper said in a statement: “A one-year-old child was exposed to a dangerous, illegal drug because the adults in that home failed to provide even the most basic level of care and protection.”

“There is absolutely no excuse for methamphetamine to be within reach of a child.”

Thankfully, the child is believed to have recovered from the possible overdose while in hopsital, according to reports.
