A British woman has died on a luxury yacht at a popular holiday hotspot, sparking a police investigation. Emergency services were called to the port of Palma in Majorca where the £27 million yacht was docked following reports of a woman’s body discovered on board on Sunday evening.

Despite their best efforts, paramedics were unable to save her and she was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for today as Civil Guard investigators strive to uncover what transpired.

There were no apparent signs of violence on or near the body of the woman, thought to be 42-years-old, but a forensic expert and police officers were unable to determine her cause of death prior to the post-mortem. The police are not expected to publicly identify her.

The deceased woman was a crew member believed to assist with maintenance and the vessel she worked on has been identified as Lind, a bespoke motor yacht reportedly costing nearly £300,000 a week to charter during peak season.

The Cayman Islands-registered 170ft vessel, constructed in the Netherlands with an exterior design by award-winning Tim Heywood, boasts a top speed of just over 15 knots and can accommodate up to ten guests along with 13 crew members. Its additional features include an open-air cinema, hot tub, gym and inflatable trampolines.

The superyacht’s current proprietor is reportedly German billionaire Peter Alexander Wacker, who holds roughly 10% of chemical firm Wacker Chemie AG which was established by his great-grandfather Alexander Wacker in 1914.

The alert was sounded by the woman’s colleagues who went to check on her after she failed to respond to messages or answer calls.
