A British tourist was left fighting for his life after he was slashed in the neck as he tried to break up a brutal street fight in Thailand.

Harry Craig Roberts, 22, stepped into the brawl as two groups of men came to blows in front of bars in ‘Sin City’ Pattaya in the early hours of March 1. But the Middlesbrough lad was repeatedly struck in the face as punches and kicks were thrown in the fracas.

He suffered a long cut to his neck and was reported to be in critical condition by local press. Footage shows Thai sex workers desperately trying to pull the suspected attackers off before cops arrived on the scene.

French tourist Arthur Rochand, 29, from Dijon, was also treated at the scene at 5am local time on the Phra Tamnak Road.

Both men were taken to Pattaya City Hospital before being transferred to Chonburi Hospital for further treatment. They were both drunk and unable to give coherent statements, officers said.

Police Lieutenant Natthachai Korn Saengiamwibul of the Pattaya City Police Station said: “We received a report at 5.05 am on March 1st, 2026, at the entrance of Soi Diamond.

“Currently, no party has filed an official report, and the exact cause is still unknown. We are reviewing CCTV footage in the area to quickly apprehend the person who used the knife and bring them to justice.

“A female witness at the scene stated that a group of foreign men were arguing, their origins unclear, before an English and a French man tried to intervene. But the situation escalated and they were assaulted and injured.

“Other witnesses said the argument started due to jealousy over a woman, and the two men became involved in the fight, but they were injured.”

Motorcycle riders at the scene said the conflict stemmed from a dispute over a Thai woman. The two groups were reportedly seen emerging from strip clubs. Investigators said they were collecting evidence to track down the suspects.

Tourists are regularly attacked or caught up in crime, leading Pattaya to be dubbed ‘Sin City’. Embarrassed officials in the central government have launched tourism initiatives to attract families and rebrand Pattaya as a safe destination.

Authorities have also introduced safety measures, such as improved lighting and CCTV. Despite some success in cleaning up the town’s image, alcohol and sex remain its biggest draws, often leading to a high rate of crime and accidents
