A family’s desperate struggle with mysterious leaks and swarms of flies pouring from their attic has captured social media’s attention, sparking wild theories about what could be lurking above
A family’s nightmare home has become the talk of social media after a series of disturbing photos and videos appeared online, showing swarms of flies pouring and nauseating brown liquid leaking from their attic. The ordeal consequently sparked fears of something sinister lurking above.
As speculation mounts about what might be hidden in the loft, with some going as far as to point to a dead person, the family’s desperate pleas for help have gone viral. Meanwhile, their landlord has remained silent and their living conditions are deteriorating by the day.
Taking to her Threads page over the weekend, a mum who goes by the user name “liz.jo25” shared photographs and videos of what she said was her home.
The pictures and footage showcased the outside of a property, slightly damaged by mysterious leaks. It further exposed an invasion of flies.
“Help… what the f—,” Liz wrote. With the evidence going quickly viral, Liz explained: “As this may be exciting, in reality this is our actual place where we live.
“And there has been other stuff we have dealt with here too so there’s just a lot going on.” Many people rushed to share their concerns, as a Threads user commented: “There’s a dead f——- body up there.!!”
Someone else penned: “Something is dead in there, that many flies at one time puts it at about 2-3 weeks.” A person wrote: “There could be black mold in the attic getting in your air supply.”
A separate individual commented: “Cluster Flies are a sign of decomposition. We had them when we had dead mice in our walls.”
With Liz’s post going quickly viral, she later shared updates and informed concerned netizens that the fire brigade she had called “never showed up”. She further wrote: “We did end up contacting the landlord earlier today letting him know of the issues and the actions that will be taken if there’s no show of concern to the situation.”
Eventually, Liz’s landlord responded with a less than convenient solution. As per Liz’s screenshot of a text exchange she said was with her landlord, they wrote: “I’m sorry to hear you guys are looking to move out.
“Your health is important and I can certainly understand that. I have been on the phone today looking for someone to come and take a look at what is going on with the attic unfortunately it being Sunday it has not went all that well.
“I would coming out and take a look at it my self but I am out of town at the moment. I will Let you guys know as soon as I find a person to come look at it.”
In some of her latest social media updates, Liz revealed she had reached breaking point after months of battling with her landlord over dangerous living conditions. “We have explained before about the issues of the home in which he immediately showed no care in the world,” Liz wrote, adding that the landlord openly admitted he didn’t want to “spend the money” when asked to have the air ducts inspected.
The situation has taken a toll on the family’s health, with Liz revealing that her daughter, who never previously suffered from asthma, has now been hospitalised several times and is experiencing severe skin irritation.
“My daughter had been to hospital a few times due to asthma that she didn’t have before, and has been itching her skin intensely,” Liz shared. The desperate mum added: “Honestly, we are tired of these battles and we are mostly focused on just getting out of here and forgetting it all happened.”
In a final plea for support, Liz admitted she felt “horrible and awkward” about launching a GoFundMe to help the family escape their nightmare, but said the outpouring of concern from strangers had made her realise just how desperate their situation had become. At the time of writing, the family’s GoFundMe has raised $4,950 (£3,900) out of their $9,000 (£7,100) target.
As per Liz’s GoFundMe, her family, who seemingly lives in Mahaffey, Pennsylvania, USA, has faced significant financial hardship, including job loss, previous homelessness, and medical bills linked to their poor living environment. The money raised through Liz’s GoFundMe is intended to help her family escape their unsafe living conditions and secure a clean, safe place to live.
According to Liz, the funds will go towards moving costs, deposits, and essential expenses needed to relocate after months of dealing with a leaky attic, infestations, and related health problems.
