Colorado school secretary Brenda Meza, 34, allegedly had repeated sex with a 13-year-old pupil, supplying him with alcohol and cannabis
A school secretary from Colorado is wanted by police after allegedly having repeated sexual encounters with a 13-year-old pupil, during which she supplied him with alcohol and cannabis.
Brenda Meza, 34, who worked at Franklin Middle School in Greeley, is accused of grooming the eighth-grader over several months, leading to multiple incidents of intercourse in her car. According to an arrest affidavit seen by the New York Post, Meza confessed to officers that she became obsessed with the boy and felt jealous when he spoke to girls his own age at school.
She reportedly told the teen that his manhood was bigger than her husband’s and that she felt like she knew him in another life. The boy described the comment as “corny” but went along with it.
The relationship reportedly began after the pupil discovered her Instagram during the Thanksgiving break, leading to flirty messages and exchanges of explicit images. Meza allegedly deleted nude photos from her phone, including around four from the boy, to hide them from her husband.
The situation escalated in January when she bought marijuana edibles and BuzzBallz cocktails for them to share in a Walmart car park before having their first sexual encounter in her car. A second incident followed weeks later at a local park, fuelled by cannabis, before she drove him home around 9pm.
Between January 29 and February 12, they exchanged “I love you” messages 81 times. The boy told detectives there was a third encounter at the same park.
Meza allegedly warned him to keep their secret and got jealous over his interactions with female classmates. An anonymous tip reached the school in early February.
After being confronted, Meza went home and told her husband she had “got high” and had inappropriate contact with the teen. Her husband then contacted police.
Initially, she claimed they had got “super close” but “almost” had sex, before later admitting to full intercourse in her car. On February 12, after police and school involvement, she texted the boy to “delete my number”.
Hours later, he messaged her on Instagram saying he felt guilty and “their gonna have to talk to me and my mom”, to which she replied: “I know I’m sorry.”
Meza, who started as a substitute teacher before becoming secretary in 2020 and also coached cross-country and advised the games club, was placed on leave and sacked by February 25.
Greeley police have been unable to locate her since an initial interview. During a March 11 traffic stop, her husband said he did not know her whereabouts and was heading to the Mexican border.
She faces 12 felony counts, including sexual assault of a child, internet luring of a child, tampering with evidence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The Greeley-Evans School District 6 said it is cooperating with the investigation and stresses that student safety remains their top priority.
