Storm Dave weather warning as 12 inches of snow and 90mph winds to batter UK

  • Storm Dave is set to batter Britain with up to 12 inches of snow and 90mph winds this Easter weekend, the Met Office has warned.
  • The weather service issued an updated snow warning covering northern Scotland from 2pm today until 3am Sunday. Blizzard conditions are expected in exposed areas with “strengthening winds bringing drifting of lying snow,” the Met Office warns.
  • Up to 30cm of snow could pile up on higher ground above 200m, while 5-10cm is likely in low-lying areas. Some regions may see flooding instead as rain replaces snow.
  • Travel chaos is expected with stranded vehicles and isolated rural communities likely. “Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected,” the Met Office adds.
  • Brits are urged to stock up on torches, batteries and mobile phone power packs to prepare for outages. Motorists should carry warm clothing, food, water and emergency equipment in their cars.
  • Ireland will also be hammered by Storm Dave with very windy conditions and heavy rain on Saturday. Easter Sunday will bring cooler temperatures of just 7-10 degrees with scattered showers and possible hail.
