Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz once again after Israel continues attacks on Lebanon following the ceasefire.
Iranian state media says it has halted oil tankers passing through Strait of Hormuz after Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Only two oil tankers were able to safely pass through the Strait with permission from Iran after Trump accepted Iran’s terms and a ceasefire was established.
It comes as Iranian state media said the Islamic Republic would withdraw from the ceasefire agreement if Israel continued to attack Lebanon. It added that Iran would be “identifying targets to respond”.
The Strait was supposed to do opening tomorrow or Friday following the ceasefire agreement, but several countries already stated their fears in passing through. Today Israel carried out its largest attack on Lebanon since its war with Hezbollah began. The country carried out a flurry of airstrikes without warning on Beirut and across the country on more than 100 targets.
Warplanes flattened several buildings in the centre of the capital city, filling the skies with smoke. The streets of Beirut are have been levelled by the blasts and the flaming wreckage of buildings have been pictured.
The attack came less than 12 hours after the Iran ceasefire announcement. The office of the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said the two-week pause didnot “include Lebanon”. The head of the Israel’s military said after the wave of strikes that it would “continue to strike with determination”.
The closure of the Strait once again could stall the ceasefire and ensure the war continues after Trump warned the Iran would face further destruction if it failed to follow his rules set out in the agreement.
Iran’s list of demands presented to President Trump were revealed following the agreement of a ceasefire, including a staggering $2 million (£1.1 million)-per-vessel charge to use the Strait of Hormuz.
