Child is mauled to dying by canine at house

A child has been mauled to death by a dog at a home in North Yorkshire. 

Cleveland Police were called to Hardale Grove, in Dormanstown, Redcar, following concerns for a child just after 1.30pm on Thursday. 

When they arrived, they found that the child had tragically died.

The force said it believed a dog bite was the cause of death.

Armed police rushed to the property and destroyed one dog, while a second was recovered from the scene by police, TeesideLive reports.

Police have not revealed the age of the child, nor the breed of the dogs concerned. 

District Commander, for Redcar and Cleveland, Emily Harrison said: ‘Understandably this is a distressing and tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child’s family.

‘There is a scene in place at the address while an investigation into the child’s death begins.

‘I would encourage anyone who has concerns or information to please speak to an officer.’
