A horrifying dog attack in in Dormanstown, Redcar, that saw a young child lose their life was reportedly a “baby girl”, according to neighbours. Although police are yet to officially confirm details of the victim.
Cleveland Police sent armed officers to Hardale Grove shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday (April 9) with locals recalling them being forced onto a roof with calls for neighbours to stay indoors.
Teesside Live, who have been reporting from the scene, say locals watched the dog “running up and down the street” following the attack on the child, which is believed to have occurred inside a property.
One resident heard a woman screaming “get the baby” or “help the baby”. She added: “That poor baby, she had no life. It’s absolutely horrendous. I closed the blinds as I was looking after my great-granddaughter. I didn’t want her seeing any of that.”

One dog was destroyed on the street as neighbours reported hearing a shot fired. A second dog at the property was recovered by police.
In a statement, Cleveland Police said: “Shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday, April 9, police were called to Hardale Grove following concerns for a child.
“Upon arriving at the property, the child had sadly died. The child is believed to have died as a result of a dog bite.
“Armed officers attended and one dog was destroyed on the street while another dog at the property has been recovered by police.”
