Dead Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan ‘talks and ‘talks’ to his widow for an hour at a time

Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan “talks and talks” to his widow for up to an hour at a time, she has revealed. Victoria Mary Clarke, 60 – who married Shane in 2018 after nearly 40 years together – says she keeps notes of everything Shane tells her.

She said that she intends to reveal what Shane talks about during their ‘spiritual channelling’ conversations in her memoir, which she is currently writing.

Shane, famed for singing Fairytale of New York and A Rainy Night in Soho, died at the age of 65 in November 2023. Despite this, however, Victoria says she regularly ‘speaks’ to Shane after ‘channelling’ his spirit.

She said that her memoir will contain ‘transcriptions’ of her chats with Shane during their ‘spiritual communications’.

Speaking to Mojo magazine in its latest edition, she says: “I have channeled him (Shane) a few times.

“When he’s able to communicate, I can be writing for like an hour, and he’ll just be talking and talking and talking.

“I write down everything he says…I’ll definitely be incorporating the channelling (in my memoir).”

She added: “I feel that if I’m listening to the kind of music that he listened to and if I’m sitting in his chair and if I’m feeling his vibe…if I can tune into that frequency, I can feel him.”

Victoria also said that there would be ‘more music’ from Shane, saying she’d found two ‘unheard albums’ in various states of completion, saying one will be released in 2027.

In November this year an album entitled 20th Century Paddy – featuring artists like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, David Gray, and Primal Scream singing Shane’s songs – will be released.

Victoria said the album was ‘like extending Shane’s life’, adding: “It’s like actually giving him this new lease of life he didn’t have.”

Speaking previously, Victoria said she could ‘feel’ Shane communicating with her, adding: “I feel that he’s communicating with me. I can tell him stuff, and I can feel him watching me and being very much with me.”
