A woman has been taken into custody following the tragic death of a baby girl.. Emergency services rushed to North Reddish, Stockport just before 11am on Saturday (18 April) after receiving reports of a “concern for welfare”.
Eyewitnesses reported a significant police presence on Howden Close. The M.E.N. understands that the baby, a 14-week-old girl, was hurriedly taken to hospital from the scene but tragically passed away, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.
A 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. She remains in police custody.
An investigation is ongoing and a scene remains cordoned off on the street. A GMP spokesperson stated that the investigation is in its ‘early stages’ and officers are ‘keeping an open mind’.
The force spokesperson said in a statement: “Emergency services were called to reports of a concern for welfare in North Reddish at 10:51am on Saturday 18 April.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the baby sadly died at hospital. A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and is in custody.
“A scene will remain in place while we conduct our investigation, which is still in its early stages. We are keeping an open mind and following all available lines of enquiry at this time.”
