An attempt mid-air tryst was grounded before it even began after a pair of amorous holidaymakers were caught in a compromising position on a Jet2 flight before the aircraft took off.

The couple, both in their 50s, have now been hit with a permanent ban after their mile-high ambitions were spotted by disgusted passengers before the plane had left the runway.

Witnesses at East Midlands Airport watched in disbelief as the duo began getting intimate in their seats during the pre-flight taxi. The sordid scene was inadvertently caught on video by Darren Street, 51, who had been filming the excitement of take-off.

Darren, a garage owner from Nottingham, said “It was incredibly blatant, there was a lot of vigorous movement going on in his jogging bottoms. My wife and I were shocked and disgusted.”

Horrified travellers alerted the cabin crew as the plane climbed toward cruising altitude.

The situation became so heated that staff reportedly debated turning the aircraft back to the Midlands before ultimately deciding to continue to Gran Canaria.

When the crew moved in to challenge the couple on their lewd conduct, they were met with a bizarre excuse.

Despite the suggestive thrashing witnessed by those nearby, the pair insisted they were simply engaged in a moment of deep prayer to calm their nerves. Darren wasn’t convinced by their sudden spiritual awakening.

He said: “When confronted, the couple claimed they were praying because it was their first time on a plane. They must have thought it was the stewardess’s first day on earth, we all knew what they were doing.”

The couple’s holy explanation failed to save their holiday. As soon as the wheels touched down in the Canary Islands, the airline took swift action to ensure the pair wouldn’t be enjoying any further Jet2 hospitality.

The duo was immediately booted from their Jet2-affiliated hotel and their return tickets were cancelled, leaving them to find their own way back to the UK. Both individuals have also been served with a lifetime ban from the airline.

The four-hour flight was reportedly awkward for the whistleblowers, with Darren noting the couple spent the journey staring them down. He added: “We told the staff because there were kids on the plane.”

The airline stood firm on its decision to blacklist the pair, reiterating its commitment to a family-friendly environment.

In a statement, Jet2 said: “These customers have been banned for life. As a family-friendly airline and holiday company, we take a zero-tolerance approach to appalling behaviour such as this.”
