Benjamin Sesko of Manchester United celebrates scoring his team’s second goal with teammate Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United stars will be “stupid” not to learn from Casemiro before his summer exit, reckons Benjamin Sesko.

Veteran midfielder Casemiro is in the form of his life at Old Trafford, scoring three goals in his last three home games – including the opener in Monday night’s win over Brentford – but is leaving the club on a free transfer this summer. The former Real Madrid star has been instrumental in United’s rise to third in the Premier League table under interim boss Michael Carrick, with the dark days of Ruben Amorim now long gone and a return to the Champions League all but assured.

Casemiro, a serial winner during his time at Real Madrid, has been praised in recent weeks for his work rate and attitude. And £73m striker Sesko, who scored what was ultimately the winner against Brentford, has urged team-mates to make the most of the Brazilian while they still have the chance.

“He’s a working machine,” said Sesko. “He’s experienced, and what he’s putting on the pitch is unbelievable.

“You need someone like this. Unfortunately, he’s leaving, but yeah, we have to learn, so we are pleased that we can manage him until the last minute in the game – and we’re going to use him.

“Of course, you know, the way you look at him, it’s very important, you know (to learn from his example). And I think you can be stupid if you don’t look at him and try to be like him, when it comes to the work rate and stuff.

“And again, as I said, I think everyone is pleased that he is here. Unfortunately, he leaves (at the end of the season), but yeah, it’s important to keep him going like this.”

Carrick appears to be in pole position to be given the United job on a permanent basis in the summer. And Sesko admits he wants the former United and England midfielder to be given the job full-time.

The Slovenian striker added: “Of course, (he’d like him to stay). He’s an amazing coach, I’ve said this many times. He’s brought a different energy. Also the way we’re doing things in the training, it’s unbelievable and of course, I would like to have him here.

“The way before the game fans were giving the sound and everything. You know, we were have starting flying.

“That’s why we also created so many chances and yeah, it’s been amazing and hopefully we will have more moments like this.”
