Two young boys, merely one and three years old, have been identified by police following their tragic deaths in a house fire.

Three year old J’Saun, and one year old Xaliq, died due to injuries sustained in the fire that erupted at a property on Mason Street, Wolverhampton, around 8.30pm on Friday, April 24.

Firefighters raced into the blazing home and managed to carry the children outside. However, they were declared dead at the scene.

Two other children and a woman had already evacuated the house before the arrival of emergency services.

Paramedics assessed them but found no need for hospital treatment. They were discharged at the scene, reports Birmingham Live.

A woman in her 30s, arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children, has been released on bail.

West Midlands Police stated today (April 28) that officers continue to work with the fire service to determine the cause of the blaze.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We were called to the fire in Mason Street at around 8.30pm on Friday, along with colleagues from the fire and ambulance service.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued two young children.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, nothing could be done to save them and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Two other children and a woman were already out of the house before emergency services arrived. They were checked over by ambulance staff but did not need hospital treatment and were discharged at the scene.

“The family of the two boys have asked that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with the tragedy.

“We are continuing to work with West Midlands Fire Service to establish the cause of the fire.

“A woman in her 30s who was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children.

“She has been released on bail while the investigation continues.”

Det Insp David Cooper stated: “Our investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire continues. We are supporting the family of the two young boys at this devastating time.”
