David and Victoria Beckham’s marriage was rocked by scandal when the former Manchester United star was once accused of having an affair with his former personal assistant after moving to Real Madrid
David Beckham was embroiled in a cheating scandal with his personal assistant when he moved to Real Madrid.
The Manchester United and England legend, who celebrates his 51st birthday today (May 2), swapped Manchester for Madrid in 2003 to become the latest Galactico. The transfer saw him leave behind his wife Victoria in England as she continued her successful career with the Spice Girls and her blossoming fashion ventures.
However, scandal rocked the couple when his former personal assistant Rebecca Loos claimed she slept with the six-time Premier League and Champions League winner. Beckham has always denied the affair took place and dismissed the claims as “ludicrous”.

At the time, he said: “During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life.
“The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”
Rebecca became a household name as a result of the scandal and would later pose topless for lads mags.
She would open up on the alleged affair again in 2023, on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, after Beckham and wife Victoria appeared to address the affair in their Netflix doc.
Rebecca revealed the alleged encounter took place at a nightclub when Victoria was out of town. “He just kept looking at me and then I gave in,” she claimed. “So we went back to his hotel room.
“I woke up with the biggest smile on my face,” she claimed. “It was naughty and I did feel that it was wrong, but at the same time I was hooked.”
Rebecca said she is proud that she stood up for herself, adding: “I went up against England’s favourite son, so it was a harsh environment to go up against.”
In their documentary, Victoria opened up about that time in her life: “It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us. Here’s the thing – we were against each other if I’m being completely honest.
“You know, up until Madrid sometimes it felt like us against everybody else but we were together, we were connected, we had each other.
“But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me.
“It was a nightmare. It was an absolute circus — and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town right? Unless you’re in it.”
Victoria was then asked if she resented him during ordeal: “If I’m being totally honest, yes I did. It was the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life.
“It wasn’t that I felt unheard because I was always mindful of the focus that he needed.”
