Deliveroo data shows the exact temperature that triggers Brits’ summer drinking habits, with Aperol Spritz orders spiking nearly 400%
It doesn’t require a heatwave to have Brits grabbing the ice bucket, with the official temperature that sees Brits turn to Aperol to savour the sunshine being just 16°C, Deliveroo data has shown.
The findings, which demonstrate just how earnestly Brits approach their seasonal food and drink habits, reveal orders of the beloved summer beverage soar nearly 400% on the on-demand delivery platform when temperatures reach a moderate 16°C.
Suzy McClintock, VP of Consumer and New Verticals at Deliveroo said: “We’ve found that Brits don’t need a heatwave to catch those summer feelings; just a glimpse of sunshine is enough to send Aperol orders through the roof.”
And it emerges that London and Manchester are the country’s leading Aperol-obsessed cities, with Brighton following behind, along with towns Camberley and Crawley.
Yet it’s not only the Italian aperitif that Brits fancy reaching for when temperatures climb. It appears ‘Picky Bits’ also soared on Deliveroo in reaction to bright weather.
Deliveroo witnessed orders of the picnic essentials climb nearly 40% as conditions started warming up. With 18°C marking the threshold for orders of nibble-worthy items such as dips, houmous, sausage rolls, olives and savoury pastries.
It revealed that the nation’s summer isn’t truly fulfilled without dips, with the condiments proving the most sought-after ‘Picky Bits’ category on Deliveroo. Houmous has emerged as the undisputed champion of the UK’s ‘must have’ dips, with cream cheese & chive, guacamole and tzatziki rounding out the essential selection.
However, a dip means nothing without its accompanying ‘dippers’ – the next most sought-after ‘Picky Bits’ items feature sausage & savoury rolls, olives, savoury pastries, antipasti, breadsticks, and charcuterie, with Brits favouring the fridge-to-table approach the moment the clouds part.
Suzy added: “Whether it’s a spontaneous park picnic or the first ‘Picky Bits’ dinner of the year in the garden, we’re seeing a real shift in how people shop as soon as the winter chill lifts.
“We’re ready to bring the summer essentials to doorsteps in as little as 20 minutes – because when the British sun actually decides to show up, you won’t want to miss the moment!”
Brits can order both Aperol and Picky Bits on Deliveroo from supermarkets like Sainsbury’s, Co-op, Waitrose and Morrisons.
