Calor Gas said it will hit households with a war surcharge that will push up the cost of barbecues and outdoors fun – all thanks to Trump
Summer BBQ prices will soar due to the Iran war, a propane gas company has warned. Calor Gas said it will hit households with a war surcharge that will push up the cost of barbecues, camping, hot water and heating.
The company has introduced the extra fee to cover “rising fuel, operational and logistics costs linked to the Middle East situation”.
Butane and propane prices have shot up by 48% and 36% respectively since the start of the conflict. The cost of a patio propane refill already stands at about £45, and £115 for a new bottle. Calor operates the biggest LPG gas network in Britain, providing gas in bulk to off-grid homes for heating and hot water.
Nearly 200,000 homes in Britain are powered by LPG with off-grid homeowners reporting that prices for heating oil have more than doubled.
A Calor Gas spokesman said: “We’ve taken the necessary step to implement a volatility surcharge to cover additional costs of transportation and gas.”
He added that the surcharges, which will apply from May 18 and will be regularly reviewed, are due to the Iran war.
