A police officer is alleged to have shot and killed his wife during their own wedding reception after assaulting her in front of her three children. Daniel Barbosa Marinho and Nájylla Duenas Nascimento had tied the knot in a civil ceremony on the morning of Saturday (9 May).

Later that day, during the festivities, the couple got into an argument which escalated into physical violence. Family members and other guests attempted to intervene and managed to remove Nájylla’s three children from the scene amidst the chaos.

The children – aged 15, 12 and eight – are from a previous relationship of Nájylla. During the altercation, Marinho – a municipal guard – is alleged to have taken his service weapon, assaulted Nájylla, and fired shots into the air before leaving the scene.

Witnesses claimed he later returned to the home in Campinas, Brazil, and shot Nájylla. Paramedics were called to the scene but confirmed the 34-year-old woman had died.

Marinho, 55, was arrested on suspicion of femicide and domestic violence after contacting the Municipal Guard himself. A firearm and ammunition were seized, as reported by NeedToKnow.

He had been with the force since 1998. In a statement, it said: “The force is fully cooperating with the Civil Police investigation and remains available to the authorities to provide any necessary clarification.”

Nájylla’s mother, Rosilaine Alves Duenas, had previously warned her daughter about Marinho’s violent tendencies.

Rosilaine, 49, revealed to local media that Marinho would frequently turn aggressive when he consumed alcohol.

She was unable to attend the celebration due to a physical disability but was informed of the alleged murder by her youngest daughter.

Nájylla was the eldest of four siblings, who reside in Paraná and travelled to Campinas to assist with funeral arrangements.

She was pursuing Law at an online university. Rosilaine said: “She wanted to become a lawyer.”

Marinho remains in police custody.
