Arsenal have been crowned as Premier League champions after Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Gunners have waited over two long decades to be crowned as champions of England. It was Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles in 2004 that last tasted glory, but, in 2026, Mikel Arteta’s side have made themselves immortal.

Arsenal did their job on Monday evening, a Kai Havertz header the difference maker at the Emirates Stadium. Arteta’s side could almost reach out and touch the title – knowing a win on the final day or a City slip-up would be enough.

And it was the latter that turned the night sky of north London red, as Eli Junior Kroupi whipped the ball into the far corner of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal in the 40th minute.

Only Newcastle had recovered fewer points from losing positions this season, and City once again looked short of answers. For so many years, City have found solutions in moments like these, but this time there was no late rescue act, despite the best efforts of Erling Haaland.

Instead, Bournemouth, who seemingly dealt a hammer blow to Arsenal’s title chances in April, looked the better side. And Andoni Iraola’s side continued their impressive unbeaten run to clinch a European berth for the first time in the Cherries’ history.

Arsenal had been trotting to the title at a canter earlier this year, but a sloppy start to April allowed a resurgent City back into the hunt – blowing the title race wide open.

A trip to the Etihad Stadium, and a late Haaland winner, put City briefly in the driving seat as the Gunners were subject to bottle taunts from rival fans.

Dropped points and mounting pressure suddenly shifted the mood around the title race, with many fearing Arsenal were about to fall short once again.

And just as Arteta and his side looked like they were set to play bridesmaids again – a fourth second-place finish in as many seasons – a stunning City collapse away to Everton at the start of May saw Arsenal return to the top.

It was now Arsenal’s to lose and a nervy win at West Ham, amid VAR drama, helped set up another 1-0 at home to Burnley on Monday.
