An albino buffalo named Donald Trump for its golden comb-over has become a viral star in Bangladesh but faces slaughter for the Eid al-Adha festival
A rare albino buffalo who became a viral sensation for sporting a flowing golden comb-over just like Donald Trump is set to be sacrificed within days. The massive 1,500lb beast has turned into a major celebrity in Bangladesh, with hundreds of curious visitors queuing up daily to catch a glimpse of his uncanny presidential haircut.
The four-year-old bull’s owner, 38-year-old Zia Uddin Mridha, revealed that his younger sibling originally came up with the moniker as a joke.
Mr Mridha, who purchased the animal from a cattle market around ten months ago, said: “My younger brother jokingly named it Donald Trump after seeing the hair on its head. It is very calm in nature.”
He added: “Albino buffaloes are generally peaceful and do not become aggressive unless provoked.”
The unique creature has been living on a farm in Narayanganj, close to the capital city of Dhaka, where crowds have flocked throughout the month of May to snap selfies with the online icon.
One local told the Prothom Alo newspaper: “He looks exactly like Donald Trump. His facial structure and hairstyle match.”
Another dedicated fan, who travelled to the farm with five of his relatives, added: “Truly, the features are similar between the buffalo and President Donald Trump. My nephew took a one-hour boat journey to see Donald Trump.”
Bizarrely, the Trump lookalike isn’t the only political beast on the block. A second buffalo at a nearby farm was named after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu due to a similar likeness.
However, the second animal doesn’t seem to share the same calm demeanour as his American counterpart.
The manager at the farm where Benjamin the buffalo lives said: “Netanyahu is very naughty and has a devious intelligence.”
Currently, both of the high-profile beasts are being pampered on a diet of corn, soybeans and bran to fatten them up.
But the party is tragically over for the viral sensations. Both buffaloes are doomed to be slaughtered alongside roughly 12 million other livestock as Bangladesh prepares for the upcoming Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
Despite the looming heartbreak of losing his famous, platinum-blonde pet, owner Mr Mridha insists he must carry out the ritual.
He said: “I am going to miss Donald Trump. But that is the core spirit of Eid al-Adha – making a sacrifice.”
