A former Southampton wonderkid has been found dead “under suspicious circumstances” in his home nation.
Victor Udoh, who was on Southampton’s books in 2025, was found dead in Abuja, the capital of his home country of Nigeria, according to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad. Udoh, who was born in Nigeria but moved to Belgium as an 18-year-old, came through Royal Antwerp’s academy.
In a statement, the Flemish club said: “With great dismay, RAFC has learned of the passing of former player Victor Udoh.

“Our thoughts are with Victor’s family, friends, and loved ones. We wish them much strength, support, and warmth during this particularly difficult time. Rest in peace, Victor.”
Royal Antwerp handed Udoh his professional debut in 2019, and he made 28 appearances for the Reds, but failed to score and managed just two assists.
However, his impressive performance caught the eye of Southampton, then in the Premier League, and he signed a three-and-a-half-year contract, initially joining the Under 21s squad in February 2025.
Udoh’s spell with the Saints would last until September, when he left the club via mutual consent and then linked up with Czech National Football League side Dynamo České Budějovice on a three-year contract the following month.
“Twenty one is heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Victor,” one fan shared. As a second said: “Horrible news. May he rest in peace.”
“Awful news. Thoughts with his friends & family,” a third posted. While a fourth replied: “Horrible news, rest in peace condolences to your family and friends!”
And another added: “Absolutely devastating news… sending love and best wishes to his friends and family.”
