Liverpool are reportedly targeting a £22m star this summer transfer window, as one manager has admitted replacing Arne Slot at Anfield would be a dream for him
The summer transfer window appears set to be pivotal for Liverpool as they look to bounce back after a campaign they’d rather forget.
The Reds recorded their worst points total in more than a decade but still managed to clinch Champions League qualification on the final day thanks to finishing fifth. This season’s disappointments have raised doubts about how much time manager Arne Slot might have remaining at Anfield.
Another boss has faced enquiries about the role, as attention turns to the forthcoming transfer window. Liverpool will be forced to replace at least two major figures this summer. Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are both departing for new challenges, while further departures could materialise. Here’s all the latest news from around Anfield.

Sage harbours Liverpool ambition
Lens boss Pierre Sage has been touted for various positions following his side’s shock runner-up finish in Ligue 1.
He appears to be remaining in place for now, but a switch to Anfield would fulfil a lifelong ambition for the 47-year-old, reports the Mirror.
Sage, who arrived at Lens last summer, has a three-year contract and insists he intends to oversee next season’s Champions League adventure.
Nevertheless, when pressed by Telefoot about his ideal position, Liverpool’s name emerged. Lens turned to Sage – who was dismissed by Lyon in January 2025 – after claiming eighth spot last term under Will Still.
Boosted by some astute acquisitions including leading marksman Odsonne Edouard, Les Sang et Or concluded the campaign merely six points adrift of domestic champions Paris Saint-Germain and defeated Nice in the Coupe de France final.
If Slot isn’t to remain at Anfield, Sage could be a man in contention to replace him.
Dumfries switch back in contention
Liverpool’s acquisition of Jeremie Frimpong last summer hasn’t prevented them from monitoring his fellow countryman and right-back/right wing-back Denzel Dumfries.
Inter Milan defender Dumfries, who has two more years remaining on his deal, is believed to possess a release clause valued at just under £22million – a figure the Reds could be prepared to meet.
According to reports from Italy, Liverpool are plotting a summer approach after being unable to secure an agreement during the winter transfer window.
The full-back, 30, has also been touted for a switch to Barcelona should the Catalan giants decide to part ways with Jules Kounde.
Dumfries has been at Inter since 2021 and reached his 200th appearance for the club this season. He also featured in six of the Netherlands’ eight World Cup qualifying fixtures, finding the net against Finland and Poland.
Frimpong, 25, has had an unimpressive injury-hit first season at Anfield, during which he was often deployed as a makeshift right winger, with disappointing results.
