‘Mass brawl’ on Exmouth seafront as two rushed to hospital with ‘extreme face wounds’

Two people sustained serious injuries following a “large-scale” brawl that erupted on Exmouth’s seafront last night (Tuesday, May 26).

Devon and Cornwall Police received reports at 7.40pm after a “large number of young people” clashed on Exmouth Esplanade. Officers confirmed four individuals were hurt during the violent confrontation.

Two victims, both aged 18, sustained severe facial wounds. They were rushed to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, reports Devon Live. Two additional casualties, a teenage girl and a man in his 40s, received minor injuries. A witness spotted multiple police cars and ambulances at the scene before emergency services departed around 9.50pm.

Authorities confirmed they are probing the incident and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police are investigating following a large-scale fight in Exmouth last night, 26 May, which left two people with serious injuries.

“Officers were called at 7.40pm after a large group of young people were involved in a physical altercation on Exmouth Esplanade.

“Four people were injured after being assaulted during the incident. Two 18-year-old men sustained serious facial injuries and were taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

“A teenage girl and a man in his 40s also sustained minor injuries.

“Police are investigating the incident and appealing for anyone with information to contact them online or by calling 101, quoting reference number 50260133550.”

Meanwhile, three men have been arrested following what police have described as a “shocking” racially-motivated hate crime attack at a North Down beach on Monday.

A police spokesperson revealed they received a report that three men, aged in their 30s, had been attacked at the beach in Helen’s Bay at around 9pm. It came after an “earlier verbal altercation”, with those targeted said to have “sustained a number of serious, but non-life threatening, injuries”.

“A short time later, three men aged 28, 23 and 21 were stopped in their vehicle and arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon,” a police spokesperson said.

“A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a quantity of suspected class A and class B drugs, and the 23-year-old was subsequently further arrested on suspicion of possession of class A and class B drugs.

“The three remain in custody at this time.”

The police spokesperson confirmed the incident is being treated as a racially-motivated hate crime.
