Morrisons has withdrawn a snack from its shelves over concerns that packets might contain glass fragments. The supermarket is recalling Morrisons Savers Cashews due to potential contamination of the product.

The recall affects 125g packs with best before dates of 9 August 2026, 6 September 2026, 26 September 2026, 28 September 2026 or 9 October 2026.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all stores stocking the nuts. The notices inform customers why the product is being recalled and advise them what action to take.

A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: “If you have bought the product do not consume it. Instead, return it to the nearest store for a full refund.”

When there’s an issue with a food product meaning it shouldn’t be sold, it may be ‘withdrawn’ (removed from shelves) or ‘recalled’ (where customers are requested to return the item).

The FSA publishes Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities about food-related problems.

Occasionally, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is released. This gives local authorities details of particular measures to be taken on consumers’ behalf, reports Devon Live.

Morrisons ranks as the fifth-largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom. It commands a 9.2% share of the UK grocery market. For decades, it was notably part of the “Big Four” leading UK supermarkets alongside Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda, but it was surpassed for fourth place by German discount retailer Aldi.

It operates 497 large-scale supermarkets and has aggressively expanded into the convenience sector with roughly 1,600 to 1,700 “Morrisons Daily” stores.

Many of these are run through franchises or were obtained via its acquisition of the McColl’s chain.

The retailer produces an annual turnover of roughly £18.4 billion and ranks among the UK’s biggest private-sector employers, with over 110,000 staff working throughout its outlets, production facilities, and distribution networks.
