Following their qualification for next season’s Champions League, Manchester United face a hectic summer ahead. Arrivals and departures will be necessary as Michael Carrick reshapes his squad, with doubt lingering over players such as Marcus Rashford.

Rashford spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Barcelona, but questions persist over whether the Catalan giants will trigger their £26m option. The England star is amongst several big earners who could exit Old Trafford during the summer, with Casemiro and Jadon Sancho already set to leave at the end of June.

Casemiro’s compatriot Ederson looks destined for Old Trafford, while Manuel Ugarte’s situation remains unresolved. This could create space for at least one fresh central midfielder as Carrick’s side prepare to handle a minimum of eight additional fixtures next term.

With the World Cup kicking off in a fortnight, some deals may need to be postponed. There’s still opportunity for activity though, and here are our latest updates on the potential comings and goings, reports the Mirror.

Manchester United are Mateus Fernandes’ ‘first pick’ for a summer move, according to The i. The Portugal international is poised to depart West Ham United as the London outfit seek to generate revenue following their drop from the Premier League. Fernandes, who was snapped up by the Hammers for £42million from Southampton in 2025, is anticipated to command a fee of around £60m. Paris Saint-Germain have also been mooted as potential suitors, but United are reportedly optimistic about leading the chase.

The 21 year old earned his first senior international cap in the spring during a friendly against the United States, replacing United captain Bruno Fernandes off the bench. However, he was overlooked for Roberto Martinez’s World Cup squad.

Barcelona are nearing a deal for Anthony Gordon, sparking speculation over whether Marcus Rashford will kick off next season at Spotify Camp Nou. Sky Sports suggests that the Newcastle ace is en route to Catalunya with hopes of sealing a £69.3m switch.

Gordon, like Rashford, can operate anywhere across the front line and has done so for both his club and England’s Under-21s. Both players are in the senior England squad for the World Cup, where they’ll be competing for starting spots on the left flank.

United and Rashford are now reportedly poised for crucial discussions which could potentially see him remain at Old Trafford. A switch to a Premier League rival has also been suggested, with Arsenal and Tottenham named as possible landing spots.
