Punters think this pub is ‘best Wetherspoons in UK’(Image: Wetherspoon)

Walk into a Wetherspoons almost anywhere in the UK and there’s a good chance you’ll feel like you’ve been there before. The big open-plan layout, the familiar mix of dark wood and patterned carpet, the same style of menus and signage — it all blends into a kind of nationwide template. Even in different towns and cities, many branches share that instantly recognisable “Spoons” look.

However, this boozer has been named the “best Wetherspoon pub in the UK” because it has a view you won’t find anywhere else. Local tourism guide, Cornish Diaries, gushed about the location on TikTok.

They shared footage of the pub’s beer garden, which sits right alongside the sand. Inside, meanwhile, the ‘Spoons delivers everything you’d anticipate from the chain – an impressive range of beers, fruit machines and a comprehensive menu of affordable food in spacious surroundings.

The Wetherspoon in question is The Bluff Inn, located in Hayle, situated across from St Ives Bay. The chain acquired and transformed the pub at Haven’s Riviere Sands Holiday Park earlier this year following a £9 million investment.

Even during cloudy weather, Cornish Diaries demonstrated just how busy the establishment gets, with nearly every table filled both inside and outside.

Wetherspoon explains online: “The Bluff Inn takes its name from its location. The popular inn sits above Bluff Beach, next to the mouth of the Hayle Estuary, where the river flows into St Ives Bay, an area which kiteboarders call The Bluff.

“The path alongside the pub slopes down past the lifeguard station to Bluff Beach, ‘slope’ being the clue to the inn’s name, which is on a bluff, rather than a cliff. Whereas a cliff is a steep, nearly vertical, rock face (with little or no slope), a bluff is more of a steep sloping bank.”

On TripAdvisor, The Bluff Inn maintains a rating of 3.3 out of 5 from more than 1,200 reviews.

One recent guest enthused: “Beautiful views looking out over Hayle. It was very busy but the staff were doing an amazing job cleaning tables, interacting with customers.

“Service was good, food arrived in good time and its the first Spoons I have been to the food came out hot. You need to pay to park which is a bit strange considering you’re using the place. Overall I would recommend.”

And a second customer raved: “Went today as first day of summer season [April 2026] and the first day The Bluff opened under the Wetherspoons Umbrella as part of The Haven Riviera Sand Holiday Park.

“It was absolutely packed but had the fish and chips and a wrap, quick service, very friendly service and the same good prices that you expect from Spoons. Absolutely amazing views of St Ives Bay and will be amazing in the summer with their large beer garden overlooking the sea. As a local will definitely returning many times.”

Other punters, however, have criticised “poor service”, and a policy preventing dogs from entering inside. Minor grumbles compared to that view, if you ask us!
