A shooting has been unfolded inside a hospital as emergency services swarm in at the scene.
Law enforcement said preliminary information indicates the incident began when one hospital employee shot two other employees. The situation is unfolding inside Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware.
The alleged shooter could only a temporary employee. The suspect’s identity is known to police, who are currently conducting a manhunt. It’s unclear what the condition of the injured people are, reports ABC. Officers think the incident is isolated but the scene is still active and this could change. Video footage showed several police vehicles at the entrance to the hospital’s Emergency Department late Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters and medics could also be spotted at the scene. Police have asked people to avoid the area.
Christiana Care released the following statement on the incident: “We are aware of a shooting incident that occurred at our Wilmington Hospital campus.
“The campus is currently on lockdown, and the emergency department is on divert. We are working closely with law enforcement and taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and visitors. This is an active police investigation for a possible active shooter.
At this time, we are actively gathering information and will provide updates as soon as more details are confirmed. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of everyone on our campus and the continuity of care for our patients.”
The Wilmington Hospital campus is currently on lockdown and the emergency department is on divert as the investigation continues, according to a hospital spokesperson.
