Roy Keane was strangely sent quite the accusation by Sir Alan Sugar during World Cup coverage on ITV
Sir Alan Sugar has bizarrely suggested he believes Roy Keane was wearing a wig during ITV World Cup coverage. The former Manchester United legend was amongst the pundits for England’s triumph over Panama, though it seems Sir Alan’s attention was elsewhere.
Two second-half strikes from Thomas Tuchel’s squad secured a crucial victory and first place in Group L. The Three Lions will face DR Congo in the round of 32 and appear destined for a tough test given their struggles to penetrate defensive walls throughout the tournament so far.
Those particular problems were evident in the opening period against Panama, with Keane amongst the critics who didn’t mince their words. Yet the former Tottenham chairman was more preoccupied with questioning whether or not he had a wig on.
He wrote on X: “Does anyone think the triangular section of hair on Roy Keane’s forehead is a wig as it looks a different colour?”.
The peculiar observation sparked a mixed bag of reactions, with some backing his theory while others were stunned by his proposition. One wrote: “Good shout mate I think you might be right.”
Another agreed: “Yeah, that’s mad. I was thinking the exact same.” On the flip side, one X user said: “No, defo his natural hair.”
A second added: “It’s a bad state of affairs when a successful entrepreneur like yourself is tweeting about a guy’s hair.”
A third chimed in: “I’m a barber, it’s perfectly natural. It’s a natural, recession growth pattern for a man in his 50s….. why ridicule someone for embracing a natural, life staging, growth period?”.
Fair to say, 45 minutes on from some of those irate responses, England supporters were in much better spirits following goals from Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham.
At the same time, Croatia beat Ghana to secure second place, while the Black Stars ended up as one of the eight best third-placed teams.
Topping the group has paved a favourable knockout route for England, steering clear of heavyweights like Portugal, France and Spain.
Defeating DR Congo will pit England against either Mexico or Ecuador in the last 16, with a potential quarter-final likely against Brazil, assuming they overcome Japan and either Ivory Coast or Norway.
