A former school friend of sicko Jamie Varley has claimed the baby killer was an “odd loner” who would “expose himself in school” and always had a warped predatory side
Preston Davey killer Jamie Varley always had a warped predatory side and was caught “masturbating in a lesson at school”, its claimed.
A former school friend of the twisted abuser has claimed the former design and technology teacher’s worrying behaviour stretched as far back as his teenage days.
He was once caught masturbating in class as a pupil, exposed himself in front of others and was known in the local area as an “odd loner”, its alleged. He also reportedly preferred to push a doll round the street in a pram.
The ex classmate was horrified by Varley, who was handed a whole life term for abusing and murdering 13-month-old Preston, but claimed he exhibited a range of disturbing behaviour even when attending the same school as him, Palatine High School.
“Questions should be asked about what, if any, action was taken around his behaviour as a hyper-sexualised teenager,” the ex school friend said.
“Varley would expose himself in school. He would get his genitals out in full view.
“He exposed himself more than once. On one occasion, he was caught masturbating in a lesson. Nobody liked him. I thought he was vile back then.”
The former friend spoke to The Sun and claimed Varley’s behaviour was often reported to the teachers, but nothing was ever done. He said he grew up in the same street as him in Blackpool and would often see him pushing around a toy pram with dolls inside, up and down the street.
Other former neighbours also spoke out and said he never fitted in. They claimed: “He was never one of us. He never wanted to knock around with us or play football. We never really saw much of him, and he didn’t leave his house much.
“He was a bit of a loner and an outsider. He moved up to Blackpool when he was fairly young. It’s always the quiet ones.”
Little Preston was found to have suffered 40 internal and external injuries when he was taken to hospital, but sadly died on 27 July 2023, after Varley falsely claiming he had drowned in the bath.
A post-mortem revealed the tot had had an object put into his mouth and he had been subjected to a number of horrific crimes.
Varley was convicted of murder, two counts of assault by penetration, five counts of cruelty to a child, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault of a child, 13 counts of taking indecent photos or videos of a child, one of distributing an indecent photo of a child, to his co-accused, and one of making an indecent photo.
His partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, was also sentenced to 25 years for his part of the crime, being found guilty of allowing the death of a child, two counts of child cruelty and one count of the sexual assault of a child.
A safeguarding investigation into Preston’s adoption process is currently underway, and Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing Josh MacAlister asked experts to look into the conduct of Oldham Council, the adoption agency and the hospital staff who treated Preston prior to his death.
