Police have released an E-fit of a man accused of raping a woman in her 20s at a popular London high street – officers are now appealing to the public to help them identify a suspect
A woman has accused a man of raping her in the alleyway of a popular London high street leading police to release an E-fit of the suspect.
The woman in her 20s stated she had been enjoying a night out on Clapham High, south London, before she was reportedly assaulted by the suspect. The alleged incident took place on Saturday, February 14, while the woman was outside a bar with a friend before meeting the suspect and visiting a nearby supermarket at around 4am.
After visiting the supermarket it is understood the two friends separated. After they split up the victim was allegedly taken down an alleyway and raped – between 4am and 6am – by the suspect, police stated. The woman was able to fight off the man during the horror leading to him fleeing and getting away.
The suspect has been described as a man of Middle Eastern or southern European appearance. Standing at around 5ft 11ins, his build has been characterised as thin, with thick eyebrows, a thick beard and black hair.
On the night of the alleged attack the suspect has been said to have worn a plain white top, jeans and trainers.
Detective Constable Kay Paterson leading the investigation has stated: “The victim in this case has shown tremendous bravery, coming forward in the wake of an appalling attack. She continues to be supported by specially-trained officers.
“The rape took place in the early hours on Clapham High Street. The suspect and the victim moved between multiple premises – including a pub and supermarket, and we are eager to speak to anyone who has any recollection of seeing them.
“Tackling sexual offending is a top priority for the Met, and we are releasing this e-fit to assist witnesses, or anyone who may recognise the suspect.”
