Manchester United have announced the first signing of their summer overhaul as Michael Carrick adds a £50million Premier League star to his squad
Manchester United have completed their first signing of the summer for a £50million Premier League star.
Michael Carrick needed to overhaul his midfield and the first step has been made with the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea. The 22-year-old Brazil international moves to Old Trafford for a guaranteed fee of £48million plus £2m in add-ons and a 10 per cent sell-on clause
Santos joined Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in 2023 and spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg in Ligue 1. He played 43 times for the Blues last season, scoring three and registering four assists.

Speaking to the club after signing, Santos said: “Everything about Manchester United is special; it is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented.
“As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick, he is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career and push to achieve my dreams.
“Everybody told me about how ambitious the club is and the amazing environment that has been created here. I know just how strong the squad is and I cannot wait to fight together to compete for the biggest trophies.”
United’s director of football Jason Wilcox added: “Andrey is an outstanding midfielder with excellent technical qualities and the ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch.
“He was a key target for us in an important position, so we are delighted that he will join Michael’s squad so early in pre-season.
“Despite already having extensive experience, leadership abilities and proving his talent at the highest level, Andrey still has enormous potential to develop further, and we cannot wait to see him flourish at Manchester United.”
United are also in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans. The 29-year-old’s £35million release clause in his contract has reportedly been triggered and the Belgian could undergo his medical next week.
Meanwhile, a £38million deal for Atalanta and Brazil midfielder Ederson has broken down; however, it’s said United may look to revisit his signing later this summer.
