EXCLUSIVE: David Beckham was horrifically booed by Argentina fans during England’s World Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday − and one expert says he was both astonished and annoyed
David Beckham was left “fed up” after being booed by Argentina fans, according to a body language expert. They also claimed he was “unprepared” for the brutal reaction he was getting from the crowd.
Former England legend David, 51, was seen attending England’s match against Argentina trying to secure a spot at the final of the World Cup on Sunday (July 19). However, when the camera cut to him and his wife Victoria watching over the match, they were heckled horrendously.
Now, one body language expert has said he was not best pleased after discovering the booing was directed to him. But despite this, they claimed it’s likely the poor reception will not make a mark on his ego or personality.
Speaking to us on behalf of Covers.com, celebrity psychic and body language guru Inbaal Honigman admitted David went through “several different emotions” after hearing the boos. She said it ranged from surprise to contempt as he made the realisation.
“There’s surprise − Beckham’s eyebrows go up and his mouth turns into a ring, nearly an O-shape,” Inbaal said. “This is the facial expression of astonishment, as he is caught off guard.
“During this surprised moment, he hasn’t decided yet whether this is annoying or funny, but he instantly sees it as disrespectful. Underwhelmed emotions follow, as the former footballing star raises one eyebrow, which signifies skepticism.
“With this single raised eyebrow, Beckham glances at the Argentina supporters with mild contempt. He indicates that he’s looking down his nose at the boo-ers, with this uneven eyebrow expression.”
Inbaal then claimed that after hearing the boos for a sustained time, David was left looking “fed up”, almost signalling that he was getting a headache from the noise. But as soon as the heckling ends, Inbaal says he “quickly recovers and goes back to his amenable, beatific smile”.
David’s history against Argentina is well-known after he was infamously sent off during the 1998 World Cup during England’s match against the White and Sky-Blues. He was given a red card after kicking off against Diego Simeone − but made a comeback four years later and scored against Argentina at the 2002 tournament.
Meanwhile, England fans were not happy with the reaction on social media, with one user fuming: “Fans shouldn’t disrespect football legends like Beckham. At least he accords some respect.” A second said: “A reminder of how intense football rivalries can be.” Another wrote: “Football memories never die.”
The Three Lions fans were further unhappy after Argentina stopped England from taking it home. Messi and co managed to comeback from a goal down to win 2-1 in Atlanta. They will now play Spain on Sunday (July 19).
