Jude Bellingham clashed with an Argentina player after England’s World Cup exit and his wife has now taken a fresh swipe at the Real Madrid star
Valentin Barco’s wife has slammed Jude Bellingham for slapping her partner after England’s defeat to Argentina, branding him “useless.”
Yaz Juareguy posted a photo of the moment the Three Lions star clipped her husband around the ear as he celebrated his side advancing to the World Cup final. Barco watched on from the sidelines as England initially took the lead through Anthony Gordon, before two assists from Lionel Messi to Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez produced yet another Argentina comeback.
During the South American celebrations, the ex-Brighton star entered the pitch and was seen cheering in English players’ faces after Fernandez equalised. This moment was believed to be the catalyst for Bellingham lashing out at the end of the game.
In a post on social media after the game, Juareguy posted the moment the Real Madrid star slapped Barco and said: “It’s better to do the talking on the field.” She also added: “Muerto,” which translates to dead in English.
However, the context it was written in would put the word closer to “useless.” After some backlash, Juareguy deleted her original post but added another in defence of her partner.
She said: “I didn’t know that suddenly you can’t celebrate goals, but you can endorse a violent person. Switch to a different sport if you’re going to cry so much. Good day.”
Fans were initially confused by Bellingham’s reaction to Barco but then footage provided a potential answer. Cameras in the stands caught the Argentina international charging onto the pitch after his side’s equaliser and celebrating in some England stars’ faces instead of joining in with his team-mates.
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson was commentating for BBC Radio 5 Live during the game and was left frustrated by Barco’s actions. He stated that it was “probably the worst example of sportsmanship we’ve seen at this World Cup.”
Before the physical altercation, Barco was also seen to be mouthing something to Bellingham before the 23-year-old struck him. The pair were soon separated.
