More than a quarter of us admit to packing our own teabags before travelling abroad – and they even ranked higher than hairdryers in a list of essential suitcase staples, a poll shows
Brew-loving Brits can’t go on holiday without their favourite cuppa. More than a quarter of us admit to packing our own teabags before travelling abroad.
And they even ranked higher than hairdryers in a list of essential suitcase staples, a poll shows. Books ranked highest when Brits were asked for their suitcase essentials at 53%, while 28% of people said they could not travel without a battery pack.
Teabags came third with 27% of 2,000 adults surveyed saying they packed the kitchen staple when they went away. Hairdryers or straighteners and favourite snacks from home round off the top five.
But the data shows millions still forget some of the most important holiday items, with 28% of people admitting not packing a toothbrush.
Meanwhile 27% have gone away without a phone charger while more than one in 10 have forgotten to pack medicine. The survey by Tesco insurance found a third of Brits (32%) said they don’t start holiday packing until the day before travel.
Chief customer officer Alex Cross said: “It’s no surprise that so many of us leave packing until the last minute, but a little forward planning can go a long way in avoiding an extra dash to the shops for a forgotten toothbrush or phone charger.
“It’s worth making a travel checklist of the essentials that matter most, like medication, travel money and passports, as these are the items that can cause real problems if left behind.
“Of course, even well-prepared packers can run into holiday mishaps like lost luggage. It’s worth knowing exactly what your travel insurance covers in advance, so you know exactly what support is available if the worst happens and your bag doesn’t arrive safely.
“Giving yourself enough time to pack, keeping key documents and essentials together and taking out travel insurance as soon as you’ve booked your trip can help set you up for a smooth start to your holiday.”
Top tips on how to stay organised include rolling clothes instead of folding them, using the space inside shoes to pack smaller items and planning outfits in advance.
