EastEnders star Ross Kemp told his followers that his mum had been rushed to hospital during the England v France World Cup match as the actor said some things are “more important than football”.

The 61-year-old actor is known for his passionate commentary and analysis of the men’s national football team and has posted regularly on social media throughout the tournament.

He clarified to his 226k followers on Saturday night (July 18) that Kemp would not be posting about the third-place playoffs due to health issues with his mum.

Kemp did not share details of what happened to his mother but reassured that she was “okay” and “stable”.

He said in a video shared on his Instagram story: “Huge thank you to the paramedics who’ve helped me get my mum to hospital tonight.

“Clearly, I will not be posting about the football. That is not because I don’t care. I love England and I hope they win.

“But there are some things like your mum that are more important than football. All right, come on, England, and we’ll be back there in four years’ time, and hopefully we’ll win it.

Following the match, which saw England beat France 6-4, he said: “The good news is my mum is okay. She’s stable.

“England won the football and we beat the Argentinians at rugby in their own backyard, so not a bad result after all. Good night.”

The England team were just minutes away from reaching Sunday’s final but missed out after a 2-1 semi-final defeat against Argentina last week.

The team, however, ended on a high on Saturday night with the thrilling win which has become England’s best performance at the tournament since 1966.

The World Cup final kick-off is at 8pm UK time on Sunday and will see Spain face Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium.
