Wayne Rooney has returned to our TV screens with a new Disney+ docuseries titled The Real Rooneys, centred around his family life with wife Coleen and their four sons
Wayne Rooney has expressed a desire to bring back his old Sky series, Street Striker, in a bid to reignite a lost love for old-school football.
The former Manchester United star appeared on Hits Radio’s YouTube channel to promote his new documentary on Disney+ alongside his wife, Coleen. The couple star in their own series titled ‘The Real Rooneys,’ which follows the family around as they navigate life as one of the most famous names in English football.
In the video, Coleen shows her husband a clip from the 2026 World Cup where Wayne is asked about his Street Striker series which ran from 2008-2010. He responds: “Yeah it is, a little bit. It would be good to bring that back out, I might try and look at that.”
Thousands of fans upgraded their Premier League matchday last season. This is how they did it.
Official premium experiences available now for the 26/27 Premier League season. Make it easier than ever to turn a regular fixture into something genuinely unforgettable.
Another question arises on if Wayne’s old Sky show could make a comeback before Grand Theft Auto 6 is released and Wayne was all for it. He said: “I’d love to bring it out again because I think it was such a good show to make and quite unique and different.
“That was around the time the Street Striker, street football, was almost dying out a little bit and there was going [towards] a bit more organised or more computers with better, more HD and stuff coming out.
“So, to bring that out again would be brilliant, it would be good and obviously with social media now it would be amazing so you never know.”
Street Striker ran for three seasons and was set around the Stockport area of Manchester. In the show, Rooney challenged youngsters as he aimed to find the most skilful street footballer in the UK.
By the time the final series rolled around, open auditions were held across Manchester and Birmingham and the main prize was a paid trip to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Other rewards included a trip to training camps in Swansea and Brazil.
