Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has made a rare comment about Manchester United as anger against his ownership grows again. United fans have been upping their protests against the Glazer ownership in recent weeks.

The Red Devils are languishing in 17th spot in the Premier League table, staying out of the relegation zone only thanks to goal difference. They finally snapped a 10-match winless streak on Tuesday evening, taking some heat off boss Michael Carrick. The team mounted a stunning comeback from 2-0 down to beat AS Roma 3-2 in the Champions League.

However, the victory didn’t stop supporters from voicing their anger towards the Glazers, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and club bosses. Similar protests were heard during Premier League losses to Bournemouth and Chelsea.

Fans have directed chants at Glazer, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and director Jason Wilcox. While the Roma clash saw fans release green and gold balloons in the Stretford End and tennis balls were thrown on the pitch, briefly stopping play.

Despite the woeful form and displays, the eldest Glazer has reportedly given assurances about United’s brand power, which continues to generate substantial revenue for the club.,insisting that dismal on-field results won’t dent its commercial clout. He made these remarks at Deutsche Bank’s inaugural Sports Investment Conference in London in September, addressing a room full of financiers.

The Athletic reports that Glazer claimed United’s commercial appeal isn’t tied to what happens on the pitch. He’s believed to have drawn parallels with the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, who remain massive global brands despite their recent lack of silverware.

Supporters have been demanding the Glazers sell the club for over a decade and a half now, but a reported absence of buyer interest has blocked any potential sale. Nevertheless, two scenarios could potentially persuade the family to reconsider their position.

According to ESPN, these are the completion of the new Old Trafford stadium, or Manchester City facing expulsion from the Premier League. United’s cross-city rivals are currently awaiting the result of their appeal against a guilty verdict on 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules.

Should the appeal fail, one potential sanction could be expulsion from the top flight. The club might also face a massive points deduction, which would effectively relegate them to the Championship for at least one season.

Either the new stadium’s completion or City’s downfall would boost United’s market value, potentially prompting the Glazers to offload the club. Reports suggest the family are unhappy with the club’s trajectory following Ratcliffe’s investment.

United have appointed three permanent managers since 2023, when Ratcliffe invested in the club. Erik ten Hag was dismissed just months after being handed a new contract by the club.

Ruben Amorim lasted just over a year in the role before his sacking last January. Michael Carrick took over initially on a temporary basis, before his appointment was made permanent during the summer.

Each of the three managers received substantial backing in the transfer market, yet many of the expensive signings have failed to make their mark at the club.
