Beefeater closing all 106 UK eating places for good in September – full checklist

Beefeater has announced it will permanently close all 106 of its UK restaurants on September 10, 2026, as part of a major restructure by its owner Whitbread, which is shifting focus to its hotel operations

A major restaurant chain is shutting down all 106 of its UK outlets permanently, as revealed to diners. Beefeater will close its doors and exit the restaurant industry on September 10.

Members of the Beefeater rewards scheme received correspondence, obtained by the Southend Echo, which stated: “As you may have seen, we have recently announced changes to our business, which is resulting in the closure of our Branded Restaurants.

“This means that on Thursday 10 September 2026 your local Beefeater and all other UK Beefeaters will close.”

The closure is believed to form part of owner Whitbread’s business overhaul. Whitbread is pressing ahead with a five-year expansion strategy that has seen it move away from the company’s branded dining establishments.

Consequently, the group revealed in April that it would close its remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre outlets as part of a reorganisation affecting approximately 3,800 positions.

Executives stated the company is “executing each element” of the expansion plan “at pace” to concentrate on its accommodation operations, reports the Express.

According to Beefeater’s website: “since 1974, Beefeater has been serving up the best of British steakhouse classics, perfectly grilled steaksand great family favourites like fish and chips, juicy burgers and much much more.”

Whitbread, which also operates Premier Inn, is reportedly planning to replace its 197 dining venues with an integrated food and beverage approach, which it described as more streamlined and favoured by Premier Inn customers, according to the Southend Echo.
